Regain balance with the vestibular implant

Currently, there are no treatment options to restore the function of a balance organ that does not work properly. An artificial balance organ, also called a vestibular implant, may offer the solution in the coming years!

The Geneva-Maastricht research group is investigating the feasibility of an “artificial” balance organ in collaboration with MED-EL (a manufacturer of medical devices). This website provides information on the research initiative investigating – the vestibular implant – , on the loss of balance function (vestibular loss), and on other research studies being performed in the field.

At this point, the Geneva-Maastricht group is performing a trial in which eight patients will be implanted with the new vestibular implant prototype. You will find the most recent updates related to this trial at our tab NEWS on this website.
